The Canada Border Services Agency states in Customs Notice 24-40 that, following the Government of Canada's March 7, 2025 update to the amendment to the Classification Regulations for firearms, additional firearms and their variants previously classified as non-restricted or restricted are now reclassified as prohibited, and CBSA will immediately begin prohibiting their importation by individuals or businesses unless an exemption is met. This is in addition to the May 2020 and December 2024 regulatory amendments that reclassified certain firearms as prohibited.
Canada's Department of Finance and National Revenue states that Minister François-Philippe Champagne will make an announcement on September 2, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. as part of the government's efforts to help Canadian families and businesses lower everyday costs. Global Affairs Canada states in Notice to Importers No. 1106, issued under the Export and Import Permits Act, that importation of restricted handguns into Canada is limited to police, military, movie and theatrical purposes; training, competing or coaching in an Olympic or Paralympic handgun shooting discipline; and re-importation of lawfully registered handguns by individuals holding a possession and acquisition licence (PAL) and registration certificate. Import permits are required for the first two categories, and applications for other purposes will normally be denied. Notice to Importers No. 1090 is no longer in place, and Notice 1106 remains in place until further notice.
Global Affairs Canada states in Notice to Importers No. 1090 that, from August 19, 2022 until the proposed amendments to the Firearms Act under Bill C-21 come into force, imports of restricted handguns into Canada require an individual import permit. Restricted handguns are controlled by paragraph 70(1) of the Import Control List, and a permit is not required for antique firearms as defined in section 84(1) of the Criminal Code or as prescribed in the Regulations Prescribing Antique Firearms.
Global Affairs Canada states that, as of October 10, 2019, 130,670 kg of the WTO yogurt tariff-rate quota for 2019 is available for reallocation to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-served basis, under Notice to Importers - WTO: Yogurt TRQ - Serial No. 966, dated October 1, 2019. Global Affairs Canada states that, as of September 18, 2019, 1,430,369 kg of the WTO products of natural milk constituents tariff-rate quota (Item 125 on the Import Control List) is available for allocation for the 2019 allocation year, including allocations to import other products of natural milk constituents such as blends, until December 31, 2019. Quantities are allocated under the method in Section 4 of Notice to Importers No. 891 to eligible applicants that demonstrate a requirement in their manufacturing operations and product formulations; if cumulative requests exceed the quantity available, each eligible applicant receives the lower of the quantity requested or an equal share.
